Play on your device

Tap a piece, then a destination. New game lets you choose the computer or two players sharing one device. Computer games offer three difficulties. Local games automatically save.

A view that follows you

Tilt perspective uses your comfortable holding angle as its starting point. Gently tilt your iPhone or iPad to see around the pieces while the board stays fixed. Turn it off and on in Settings to recenter. Flat board and Reduce Motion disable the effect. No camera access is needed.

Play with a friend online

Sign into Game Center in iOS Settings. In OtterChess, choose Play online → Game Center games. Select or invite a friend, then make your first move to send the turn invitation. Return to the match list to resume games. Each player needs their own Game Center account.

Share an invitation

Choose Play online → Share an invitation. Messages, Mail and other compatible share destinations can send the invitation attachment. Your friend needs OtterChess installed; they open the attachment in OtterChess and confirm the Game Center invitation. Invitations expire after seven days. If a player cannot be found, invite them through Game Center’s native friend picker instead.

Connection problems

Online moves appear after Game Center confirms them. If a request fails, check your connection and use Refresh game before trying again. Local games remain available offline. Undo and hints are unavailable during online games.
